“A fireplace screen should be an expression, not just hardware.”

Everyone recognizes that a fireplace screen must foremost prevent sparks from escaping the fireplace. But it should be acknowledged that it becomes the focal point of the fireplace just as the fireplace is the focal point of the room. A screen should be sized so as not to dominate the view. It should have sufficient focal interest to help make the fireplace attractive without the fire burning. Further consideration must be given to whether the screen style aids or interferes with the mechanics of managing a fire.

Screen Design Hints:

a. Consider an arched top, three panel screen for a rectangular fireplace. It adds character and softens the square lines of the opening.

b. A screen with an intricate design adds much to the beauty of a fireplace without distracting from the view of the burning fire.

c. Many designers have begun using andirons or decorative grates along with a plain screen to capture the viewers interest.

Single Panel Screens

Single panel screens are the best choice for a simple and tailored look. They can be sized slightly larger than the opening but must be proportional to look their best. Our single panel screen choices include many made of intricate solid brass castings for a formal look against marble or granite. We also have an extensive selection of iron screens, some hand made for added character and an outstanding look against stone and all are Ready-2-Go home today.

Multi-Panel Screens

Multiple panel screens allow for a more casual fit. Sizing is not as critical because the screen side panels can be positioned to fit the width of the fireplace opening. In most cases, the screen can remain in place and the fire stirred from above. We have traditional brass screens, blacksmith forged iron screens, screens with intricate laser cut designs and plain ones, both straight and arched, in many different finishes. Our selection of three panel screens is second to none and all are Ready-2-Go home today.

Bowed Screens

Bowed screen designs, though somewhat new, are growing in popularity. They have all the clean lines of a single panel screen with the added convenience of not having to be moved to tend to the fire. They can range from an elegant brass casting to being made of rugged iron. They look great fronting an arched fireplace opening provided they allow the arch to peak out above the top of the screen and all are Ready-2-Go home today.
